R. Elaine Joines Memorial Endowment
Elaine Joines discovered the joys of horticulture later in life as a student at Clackamas Community College. She was in search of a career change and her interest in plants, gardens, beauty and aesthetics led to her earning a horticulture degree at CCC. After graduating, she was hired to design and curate the Martha Springer Botanical garden at Willamette University. The garden lives on as a testament to her abilities.
Elaine inspired others to enjoy life and was determined to make a difference. She was a great volunteer with community horticulture organizations and shared her vast knowledge by teaching plant identification at CCC for nearly 12 years. Elaine passed away in 1999 at age 53.
The R. Elaine Joines Memorial Endowment provides horticulture scholarships for returning students.
