Richard R. Bloom Sr "Big R" Endowment

Richard R. Bloom Sr "Big R" Endowment

Richard “Big R” Bloom, Sr. had a bright academic future ahead of him at age 18. With a four-year scholarship in one hand and a football in the other, Richard was headed to Linfield College. His plans changed abruptly when his parents said they needed him to stay home and help with the family business, and he did.

Richard stayed with the family garbage business, eventually buying the company in 1959. He was a local leader and community patron, as well a national leader in his industry. Big R lived by The Golden Rule and the Cowboy Code of Ethics. He was satisfied with sealing a deal with a handshake.

Throughout his life Big R never lost his appreciation for educational opportunity or his belief in the value of education. CCC students will benefit from the scholarship opportunities this endowment will provide.
