Gwen Dickson Memorial Endowment

Gwendolen Schneidler Dickson revered education and public service. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1940 and served as a Naval lieutenant during WWII. In 1945, Gwen became Chief of the Educational Counseling Division of the U.S. Veteran’s Administration, assisting returning soldiers. In 1962 she joined the newly created Peace Corps. Along with her husband Edwin Dickson, who died in 1989, Gwen instilled in their children a love of education and service. She served the cause of world peace through the World Affairs Council, United Nations Association, American Friends Service Committee and other local organizations. Gwen Dickson died Dec. 21, 1995.

The Gwen Dickson Service to Community Endowment was established by David Dickson, Assistant to the President for College Advancement at CCC, in his mother’s honor. It provides a year of tuition support for students who provide leadership campus wide for other students involved in community service projects.
